Healthier Stuffing
Ingredients
- 16 slices thin whole wheat bread dried out
- 1 cup onion chopped
- 2 stalks celery diced
- 1 carrot diced
- 6 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp fresh parsley
- 1 tbsp fresh rosemary
- 1 tbsp fresh thyme
- 1/4 tsp dried marjoram
- 2 cups chicken broth
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp salt and pepper
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees
- Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat
- Sauté onions, celery, carrots, and garlic in the melted butter until they soften
- Add parsley, rosemary, thyme, and marjoram to the veggies and cook for 2 more minutes
- Cut the dried bread into small pieces and put them in a large bowl
- Pour the vegetable mixture over the bread and stir
- Add broth, salt, pepper, and egg into the bread mixture and stir well
- Put the stuffing mixture into a large buttered baking dish
- Pour the remaining melted butter evenly over the stuffing
- Bake for 30-45 minutes until the top of the stuffing is browned and crispy.
