Healthier Stuffing

Ingredients
  

  • 16 slices thin whole wheat bread dried out
  • 1 cup onion chopped
  • 2 stalks celery diced
  • 1 carrot diced
  • 6 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley
  • 1 tbsp fresh rosemary
  • 1 tbsp fresh thyme
  • 1/4 tsp dried marjoram
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp salt and pepper

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  • Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat
  • Sauté onions, celery, carrots, and garlic in the melted butter until they soften
  • Add parsley, rosemary, thyme, and marjoram to the veggies and cook for 2 more minutes
  • Cut the dried bread into small pieces and put them in a large bowl
  • Pour the vegetable mixture over the bread and stir
  • Add broth, salt, pepper, and egg into the bread mixture and stir well
  • Put the stuffing mixture into a large buttered baking dish
  • Pour the remaining melted butter evenly over the stuffing
  • Bake for 30-45 minutes until the top of the stuffing is browned and crispy.
